The Golf Foundation Golf Roots programme, sponsored by HSBC saw roughly 110 participants take part in a Golf skills tournament in Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham. 18 youth organisations delivered golf over the summer holidays as part of Bring It On Brum, and six came to the festival as a culmination of the golf programme.

With introductions from Pro-Golfer and Golf Foundation Ambassador Nicola Bennett and a quick warm-up with Australia’s most capped international Rugby Union player George Gregan the participants split into teams to start making their way around the 10 station course.

The course was designed to test the participants skills which they had been learning at their Golf Roots sessions throughout the summer and had participants varying in age from 4-14 with 50% of them female and 90% from an ethnically diverse community.

“The Golf Foundation delivered a fantastic, fun golf festival,” said Matt James, Area Lead for StreetGames. “It’s a great opportunity which was really embraced by those attending and we really hope they continue to play golf and enjoy the fantastic equipment provided. The Golf Foundation have supported this programme for the second year running and we are so grateful for the opportunity this support provides the young people involved in the HAF programme.”
